Join us on Monday, 17 November, at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa) for Democracy on the Brink, a full-day event organised within the Horizon Europe project RE-ENGAGE (Grant Agreement No. 101132314).
The event opens with a focus on Georgia, examining how hybrid regimes evolve under geopolitical pressures, foreign authoritarian influence, and shifting opportunities for political mobilisation.
It then turns to Ukraine, exploring how war reshapes civic space, democratic institutions, security practices, and economic governance.
The workshop concludes with a roundtable on academic activism, discussing how researchers engage publicly and politically in moments of democratic crisis. Participants will share experiences from diverse contexts, highlighting the tensions, responsibilities, and opportunities that arise when scholarship intersects with contentious politics.
